Can I take my wrapped car through a car wash or use a pressure washer to clean it?
Most vehicle wraps can go through an automatic car wash just like a painted vehicle. However, just like traditional paintwork, wraps are also susceptible to damage from automatic car washes so we don’t recommend this.
We also strongly advise against using a pressure washer at home, as the high-pressure water can damage the edges and seams of the wrap.
The safest method is hand washing with a soft cloth or sponge, using mild PH neutral cleaner and water. With the right aftercare products, cleaning your wrapped vehicle is usually quick and easy—dirt doesn’t stick to vinyl as much as it does to traditional paint.
To help maintain and extend the life of your wrap, we recommend using a vinyl-safe sealant or applying a ceramic coating. These products are available for purchase from us.
Aftercare/Cleaning of your new wrap:
We ensure all of our customers walk out of our doors completely satisfied with their vehicle and are fully educated about caring for their new car wrap. It takes very little time to properly maintain a vinyl wrap, and if you do, you will extend the life of the vinyl and be rewarded for the years to come.
Utilising the aftercare products specifically designed for your brand of vinyl (these can be purchased through us) will keep your vehicle looking new for years to come! However, like the normal factory paintwork on a vehicle, a vinyl wrap still needs washing on a regular basis to keep away all the potential pollutants, resulting in a longer-lasting and more vibrant vinyl wrap.
For those wanting to take the look of their new vinyl wrap to the next level we also offer ceramic coating. This product forms a permanent adhesion to the vinyl giving it a superior shine and has a phenomenal hydrophobic effect that helps to keep your car cleaner for longer and makes washing the car a breeze.
How long will it take to install a vinyl wrap on my vehicle?
This will always depend on the shape of the vehicle, the condition of the paintwork on the vehicle and the design you choose. Always make sure to ask about your vehicle, as every job is different. Generally a full colour change vinyl wrap will take anywhere from 5-8 days.
How long will a vinyl wrap last?
At Wrapped On Vinyl, we exclusively use premium cast wrapping films, specifically engineered to conform to and adhere to all painted surfaces of your vehicle. These colour change vinyl wraps are designed to remain in place for 3 to 4 years before being safely removed. When properly maintained and all aftercare instructions are followed, your wrap should last up to the full recommended duration.
Will removing a vinyl wrap damage my vehicle?
When applied correctly, specialist vehicle wrapping film will not damage your vehicle’s paintwork—provided the paint is in good condition to begin with.
For factory-painted vehicles with no pre-existing damage, removing a correctly installed and well-maintained vinyl wrap within 3-4 years should leave the underlying paint intact. However, the condition of the original paintwork is critical. If your vehicle has existing issues such as stone chips, abrasions, or rust, there is a higher risk that some paint may lift during the removal process.
If your wrap was installed by another company, we’re still happy to help with removal. We’ll take every precaution to minimise the risk of damage. Of course, we'd love the opportunity to re-wrap it for you once the old film is off! That said, as you can appreciate, we cannot take responsibility for any paint damage that occurs due to pre-existing flaws or poor-quality paint beneath the vinyl.
How much will it cost to remove a vinyl wrap?
Pricing for removals is charged out by time and is dependant upon the size of the job and the condition of the vinyl. Obviously these factors vary for each job depending on when and how the vinyl was installed. For a quote on the removal of your current vinyl wrap or signage, we ask that you bring your vehicle to our Wrapped on Vinyl workshop so we can have a look at it and provide you with an accurate price.
Why is a Full Wrap more beneficial than a Partial Wrap?
Full wraps cover most or all of the paint on a vehicle whilst partial wraps cover only a portion of the vehicle and for this reason a full wrap is able to protect the entire vehicle.
This becomes important when the vinyl is removed as sun fading and scratches can become more prominent on the unprotected paint on panels that were unwrapped in comparison to the protected paint from underneath the vinyl. This can often be seen on two-tone vehicle wraps where one half of the vehicle was wrapped and the other half has been left as the factory paint on the vehicle. Upon removing the vinyl, sun-fading can be quite noticeable and the paint is no-longer the same colour as the paint from underneath the vinyl.
What are the benefits of vehicle wrapping?
There are several benefits of having a vinyl wrap installed on your vehicle. Firstly it looks fantastic and can give your car a fresh new personalised look. Secondly when the vinyl is removed, for example when you want to sell your vehicle, it is restored to its original colour without losing any value because the entire time the vehicle has been wrapped it has been protected from scratches and UV rays. If a brand new vehicle is wrapped, it leaves brand new factory paint on the vehicle and come the time of re-sale, after it is removed the paint still looks brand new making you money in the long run!
Will any parts be removed from my vehicle during a vinyl wrap installation?
Yes, within reason. We always try and remove any parts that are necessary to get complete coverage of the vehicle so that the vinyl wrap represents a paint job to the closest extent possible. We do this because we do not install vinyl on your vehicle and then just cut around the trim work etc on your vehicle as this leaves unnecessary potential lifting points and problem areas down the track. Instead, if possible we carefully remove those parts of your vehicle that can be safely and easily removed, install the vinyl and then reinstall trim pieces, aerials etc over the top of the vinyl for a neat, lasting installation.
